29th April 2020 Staff Writer 0

Winter has come and gone, and so has the time to binge watch Game of Thrones and Greys Anatomy, with a side of hot cocoa. Spring days are making way for summer, which is likely to bring new heat records in most parts of the world. And to prepare and […]

Fat shaming

Fat shamed in the middle of a road in Berlin, and life hasn’t been the same since

27th April 2020 Shaheen Rajan 2

I should have written about this incident sooner, as keeping this story in my head has managed to choke my writing ability (you can’t write anything else until this one goes on paper, said the mean voice inside). So here it is. A couple of days ago, N and I […]

Covid'19 myths

In conversation with a medical frontliner to debunk Covid’19 myths

19th April 2020 Shaheen Rajan 0

When Covid’19 began infecting and killing people four months ago, there was little to no information to help us understand what this pandemic really is. We did what made sense to us, grabbing at whatever promised relief and security. We have come a long way since then; there are studies […]

Chancellor Merkel’s 10-point interim plan to resume business-as-usual in Germany

15th April 2020 Shaheen Rajan 0

Chancellor Angela Merkel and heads of German federal states have today finalised an interim plan to ease Germany back into life as we knew it before social distancing, quarantine and work from home became the way of life. Whatever measures the government has been taken so far have worked, as […]

❄ đŸŒ« M I N D F O G đŸŒ« ❄ Some days, I can ❄ đŸŒ« M I N D F O G đŸŒ« ❄ Some days, I can't figure out where to begin. What to start my day with. My mind is racing in 17 different directions, and the more my mental to-do list lengthens, the foggier my mind gets. Until it's all a blur. An overwhelming blur, where there is too much to do, but nothing is getting done as I am still figuring out the answer to a simple question - where do I begin. I have understood how my mind works to some extent now; we have been together for 32 years after all. I know it races it gets excited, it wants to do everything at the same time. It's a hyper active child, until it's tired and then it becomes a drunken old man, who wears one shoe and goes out in the snow. With that understanding, I have formulated a system to clear the fog, organise the madness in my head, and turn all that noise into productivity. I take a plain paper, without any dates or numbers, and write EVERYTHING that I need to do. Personal, professional, chores, commitments, literally everything. Within a set timeline. Say 2 weeks. Or a month.
Once I have poured everything out on the paper, I go through it and divide those tasks into days. I usually stick to a weekly plan and add things to do under those dates. Whatever doesn't belong yet goes on to a sticky note, to be catered to at a later date. Life is again organised. Until the next storm. Happy weekend folk(ses)! #berlinblogger #pakistanigirlingermany #lifeupdate #mindfog #clearmind #productivityhacks #worksmarter #planning #entrepreneur #bossbabe #berlinstartup#berlin
I experienced a different kind of snow last weeken I experienced a different kind of snow last weekend. Neither Köln nor Berlin get too much snow - the kind that freezes and stays for more than 12 hours. Whatever I had seen in the North of Pakistan and Switzerland was already frozen from way before my arrival. So watching dainty flakes of snow fly in my face and soak my hair and yoga pants was a first. A memorable first. I am not very winter-friendly (I have a list of reasons, starting with septum tantrums and dry air wheezing), but it was beautiful and I really enjoyed it. It was like being in a Bollywood movie. Or a Hollywood Christmas movie. Everything was white. Alpine trees looked exceptionally beautiful, with their branches buried under 3cm thick snow and embracing the shroud with remarkable elegance. Everything felt regal. Everything looked surreal. It wasn't my life, so I didn't burden myself with the practicalities and challenges rgat snow brings along. I was a visitor and I thoroughly enjoyed the privilege.
I think in small doses, snow and I can be friends.
P.S where's my jacket?? #berlinblogger #pakistanigirlingermany #lifeupdate #snowandi #bamberg #berlin
As I was doing this for last 3 weekends, I decided As I was doing this for last 3 weekends, I decided to take a day off on Tuesday, and work at leisurely pace on following Wednesday (aka today). Recharging battery for the next 10 days, which are going to be intense. But as you are here, and have read so far, let me share a pearl of wisdom, a reminder for YOU: "A unicorn doesn't stand and worry about what other unicorns think of it. It just sparkles." And you, my dearest folk(ses), are unicorns. Just sparkle 🌟 #Repost @buntemarkhor

Sometimes you can't see what you are learning unti Sometimes you can't see what you are learning until you come out on the other side. Relatable, yea? #lifelessons
It’s Saturday, which means that it is #bloggersd It’s Saturday, which means that it is #bloggersdayoff for me but I couldn’t stay away (also, it’s after midnight, which means it is Sunday, and I can be here on a technicality 😁). Bunte Markhor goes live in less than 12 hours, and my stomach is in knots. I haven’t done something this huge in a long long long time. It is like holding your breath but also staying alive. So much rides on this, and the nervousness is finally kicking in.
I had wanted to be an entrepreneur all my life. I used to play office office with my sister when young, where we’d work on our game laptops, pretend our notebooks were files with REALLY important documents, and look very busy. Just punching in keys while the laptop would whisper ‘3 plus 8 is...11. That’s right!’. And after all these years, it is finally happening. All that hard work, stress, late nights, winging it with Google’s help, Mother India’s duas, dad’s priceless business and financial advices, brainstorming with Sabeel, photographing with Hira, hooking up with fantastic artisans on Amy's recommendation, being cheered on by Gaby, and unwavering technical and emotional support by N, is finally meeting fruition today. How do I stop this relentless fluttering in my heart folk(ses)? Repost @buntemarkhor
