Wilde Matilde, Berlin

Last month, a friend invited me to Wilde Matilde for high tea to celebrate her birthday. I hadn’t heard or been to it, but from what I saw on Google Maps, it was PINK, and I have yet to come across a quintessentially girly place in Berlin. So, of course, I was excited!

Wilde Matilde is a couple of minutes on foot from Alexanderplatz, and is as pink as it looked in pictures (if not more). There are cakes on display as soon as you enter, and a carousel inspired circular bar in the centre. All around are different seating setups – candy pink decadent sofas and classic blue library setup, with pink and white wedding curtains in the background. There is a very burlesque feel to the setup, which I later found out was indeed true as there are shows later in the evening.

Coming back to the high tea. We were seated by a cute server, and another helped during the ordering process. She wore a beautiful vintage skirt, reminiscent of Marie Antoinette style. Our host had a Groupon voucher for 4 people, which included a three-tiered spread of sweets and fruits, with two beverages (one hot, one cold) per person.

We were served drinks first – I opted for orange juice and a green tea. Then came food and boy, it was pretty! It included sweet treats like mousse, macaroons and cake bites. There were also blueberries, sliced watermelon and mango. Everything was delicious – fresh and just the right amount of sweet.

Verdict: I would definitely go back with my girls for an afternoon of chatting and sweets. There are still vouchers on Groupon, and you can choose from breakfast spreadafternoon tea and gourmet cake.
