Raise your hand if birthdays excite you! May is exceptionally important for two reasons – first, I was born in this month, and secondly, sun and the city become friends again. As a cherry on top, there are a few fun things going around K-Town to colour your social calendars red as well. Presenting a roundup of all that is happening in Cologne in May 2019:
1st May 2019: Café Hommage opens second venue at 25 Hours Hotel The Circle
The swanky new hotel in town now is home to one of my favourite cafes in the city. Café Hommage has expanded, and now has an outlet in 25 Hours Hotel The Circle as well (in addition to their first cafe at Friesenstraße). Amazing coffee, vegan food options, and cozy vibe.
3-5th May 2019: Street Food Festival – Bahnbögen Ehrenfeld
The infamous arches of Ehrenfeld station will be home to Argentine Chacarero sandwiches, heavenly cheesecakes, ceviche, Filipino fusion food and good music for three days. And weather doesn’t seem to be too bad either.
3-12th May 2019: International Photoszene Cologne
Six curators (Erik Kessels, Ola Kolehmainen, Ronit Porat, Fiona Tan, Roselyne Titaud and Antje Van Wichelen) bring exhibitions across 6 venues (Museum Ludwig, MAKK – Museum for Applied Arts Cologne, Kölnisches Stadtmuseum, Photographische Sammlung/SK Stiftung Kultur, Rautenstrauch-Joest-Museum and Rheinisches Bildarchiv at Kaune Contemporary), in addition to 65 independent photography shows.
5th May 2019: My Birthday
Have a slice of cake for me please.
Until 5th May 2019: Kölner Frühlingsvolksfest am Deutzer Rheinufer 2019
An open-air festival, with rides and food stalls, right next to Rhein. Olympic Looping, one of the world’s largest roller coaster, is also back after a 23-year hiatus.
9th May 2019: Enrique Iglesias live in concert at Lanxess Arena
I already bought my tickets – an early birthday present from me to me.
16th May 2019: Open Air Cinema
Open Air Kino has a schedule of films to be screened at their open air cinema by Rheinauhafen from 16th May until 23rd August. Tickets are priced from 8.5€.
30th May 2019: 21st Kölner Bierbörse
Around 40 breweries will come together at Rhine promenade, where visitors can try local as well as exotic and international beers. Once you have found the one you like, you can take it to the beer garden and enjoy.
