Can you already feel the biting chill in air? Yeah, summer is almost out of the door, and we need something to cheer us up. Here’s what Cologne has to offer this month; fancy something?
6th September 2018: Free Museums Day
Every first Thursday of the month (except public holidays), Cologne residents can enjoy permanent collections at municipal museums free of charge. Your ID card is your ticket. Exhibitions go on until 10PM, and the variety include Trip to East Asia, Day in America, Pop Art, Photo Lab for Kids, Cologne Through Ages, Back to Middle Ages, and many more.
8th September 2018: Silent Concert
After the wonderful debut in 2017, the B-Sites Festival 2018 is back with this year’s world’s only headphone festival in the world. At least five artists, delicious street food and other attractions await at Kölner Jugendpark.
8th September 2018: Blauer Abend in Nippes
Cologne is getting naughty and staying up way past its bedtime on 8th. Shops will remain open until 10:00PM around the area, with special offers by a few merchants like KaffeeKiosk am Wilhelmplatz, and concerts to keep it jazzy.
8th September 2018: Block Party Lindenstraße
A Neighbourhood party for Linderstraße folks, with food stalls and music. If sun is shining even a little bit, it would be a good idea to step out and meet your neighbours for a chat andbeer.
8-9th September 2018: African Food Festival
The city’s largest celebration of contemporary African cuisine and culture is here for two days. You can experience a culinary journey across the continent – from Accra to Nairobi, from Cape Town to Marrakesh.
8-9th September 2018: Grill ‘ Gin Festival
2 days. Live DJ. 20 food trucks. 20 extraordinary gin manufacturers, who will personally introduce themselves to you if you like. Entry is free and the party goes on until 3AM.
13 – 23rd September 2018: Africa Film Festival
Film Initiative Cologne has brought 80 African films from all genres to be screened at Ludwig Museum. They have also arranged for guests to fly in from the region and the finale will be preceded by an awards ceremony.
20 – 22nd September 2018: Cologne wine festival at the Playa
6th Cologne Wine Festival is back at the Playa, with 50 wines available for tasting (and purchasing if you like it enough). There will also be small bites and entertainment. Groups of 8 can book a table for 200€ (includes 50 bons).
21 – 30th September 2018: Photoszene Festival
86 exhibitions will take over MAKK – Museum für Angewandte Kunst Köln, in cooperation with the German Society for Photography, featuring artist talks, guided tours, workshops, portfolio reviews, Photoszene Kids & Young Photoszene. There are a number of interesting activities planned, so it is worth checking out the schedule as something might catch your fancy.
29th September 2018: South City Safari
Organised by Südstadt Safari, think of it as a pub-crawl but with 220 shops, restaurants and pubs, who will open their doors to offer special attractions and display a colourful variety of culture, culinary and pub life of the Veedel. It starts at 4PM and goes on until late, and looks like a lot of fun. I might go for it if I find a partner.
