Since 1998, Dubai Summer Surprises has been a shopping and event festival put on by the city of Dubai to bring tourists and residents together to celebrate all that Dubai has to offer in the summer (hint: it’s all indoors). This year’s festival has already kicked off, and it will be continuing until the 20th of August.
One of the big draws of Dubai Summer Surprises is all the stores offering sales. If you haven’t been to a mall in the past week, you’ve been missing out. You’ll find these offers at all the major malls in Dubai: The Dubai Mall, Mall of the Emirates, Ibn Battuta, City Walk, Deira City Center, Mirdif City Center, Mercato, Marina Mall, JBR, Box Park, Festival City, and even Dragon Mart. Some of the fashion retailers with great sales include BCBG Max Azria, Bebe, Maje, Sandro, Paris Gallery, and Ted Baker. There’s also a five percent discount at Dubai Duty Free, so if you were thinking about a quick weekend getaway, you should do it right now so you can stock up on your way back home!
There will also be lots of fun events going on throughout the city. Starting August 1st until Dubai Summer Surprises ends, you’ll be able to see go to Mercato mall every evening and see Il Circo, an interactive Italian circus. Festival City has brought the outdoors to the indoors with beach, park, and sport zones inside the mall, each having fun arts and crafts workshops. Between now and the 30th of July, you’ll be able to go to Dragon Mart 2 and learn the Chinese art of painting designs with hot liquid sugar (snacks included!).
Also if you want to let out your inner child and play some arcade games, both Mall of the Emirates and Ibn Battuta have Eat and Play deals, where you can go out to eat at places like California Pizza Kitchen or Yo Sushi and receive a voucher for half off any card at Magic Planet.
I’m a big fan of Dubai Summer Surprises. Where I’m from in the States, a thing called Seasonal Affective Disorder is quite common, which essentially means that you become sad and depressed in winter, because it’s cold and dreary and really hard to go out and do things. Here in Dubai, winter is lovely, but in summer, it’s so hot that it’s hard to convince yourself to leave the lovely air conditioning and go do something fun. So I really appreciate how much Dubai is working on creating entertainment in air conditioned spaces, and I strongly encourage you to go play around with everything that Dubai Summer Surprises is offering!
