10 Things to know about IIFA Awards 2016

So far, you know that Videocon D2H IIFA Weekend & NEXA IIFA Awards will take place in Madrid, Spain from 23rd to 26th June 2016. Also, I might be attending. Might. Any celebs I should say hi to for you? Let me know in the comment box below.

Other than the basic stats, here are 10 things you need to know about one of the most anticipated awards in the Indian cinema:

  1. The awards will be hosted by a striking duo this year – Farhan Akhtar and Shahid Kapoor.
  2. The Videocon d2h IIFA Weekend 2016 festivities will witness a host of events – IIFA Rocks, FICCI – IIFA Global Business Forum, IIFA Stomp in collaboration with MULAFEST Urban Trends Festival, along with the mega awards night, NEXA IIFA Awards 2016.
  3. IIFA Rocks 2016 musical performances line-up includes hit-maker Pritam, Meet Brothers, Benny Dayal, Kanika Kapoor, Monali Thakur, Neeti Mohan and Papon among others.
  4. The star-studded awards will feature performances by Bollywood superstars Salman Khan, Hrithik Roshan, Priyanka Chopra, Deepika Padukone, Sonakshi Sinha and Tiger Shroff.
  5. The king of playback, Arijit Singh has been nominated twice in Playback Singer- Male for his musical contribution in Hamari Adhuri Kahani and Roy.
  6. The talented actor Nawazuddin Siddiqui has garnered three nominations, Performance in a Comic Role, Performance in a Negative Role and Performance in a Supporting Role- Male.
  7. Bajirao Mastani and Bajrangi Bhaijaan are head to head with each other, with Ranveer Singh’s blockbuster nominated for eight awards whereas Salman Khan heartwarming render following closely with seven nominations.
  8. The Nominees for the Leading Role Male this year are Varun Dhawan (Badlapur- Don’t Miss The Beginning), Salman Khan (Bajrangi Bhaijaan), Amitabh Bachchan (Piku), Ranbir Kapoor (Tamasha)and Ranveer Singh(Bajirao Mastani).
  9. The Leading Role Female contenders feature Priyanka Chopra (Dil Dhadakne Do), Shraddha Kapoor (ABCD 2), Deepika Padukone (Piku), Kangana Ranaut(Tanu  Weds Manu Returns) and Deepika Padukone (Bajirao Mastani).
  10. The nominations for Best Picture and Director include a host of names such as Kabir Khan (Bajrangi Bhaijaan), Shoojit Sircar (Piku), Meghna Gulzar (Talvar), Aanand L. Rai (Tanu Weds Manu Returns) and Sanjay Leela Bhansali (Bajirao Mastani).
