HAPPY WOMEN’S DAY LADIES!
We are awesome and don’t need any particular day to celebrate us. But if men in our respective lives insist on bringing us breakfast in bed and showering us with presents, who are we to complain, right?
Well, while men do their bit, we can choose today to reaffirm our commitment to healthier and better selves. Rania Gamal, a Dubai-based fitness guru, model, actress and TV presenter, shares her 5 fitness rules with Cherry Cross, called W.O.M.E.N. Her rules are simple, yet effective, and I absolutely love them (yet to discipline myself to follow them though). Here’s what she has to say:
WAKE UP 3 (+ TRAVEL TIME) HOURS BEFORE YOUR WORK TIMING
If there is one thing common in CEOs and successful people, it is that they all wake up early. Gamal recommends that you wake up at least three hours before you need to head out. “You need one hour to exercise so you have a stronger body, 30 minutes to prepare a healthy breakfast and not those easy-to-cook frozen, ready-to-fry and food laden with preservatives, 30 minutes to eat, 30 minutes to shower and get dressed, and 30 minutes to read or watch news.”
OPEN YOUR EYES TO THE TRUTH
Learn to filter through the information that comes your way. If a slimming pill works for your friend, it might not work for you. Likewise, every product that says sugar free isn’t necessarily devoid of those pesky carbs. “I believe in nature. Fruits, vegetables, adequate amount of protein and carbohydrates.
MIND YOUR OWN BUSINESS
Don’t be envious of Sarah if she has a slimmer body or of Wafa if is she has a flat stomach. You don’t have to focus on what others have and what they do; instead, focus on how you can improve yourself and reach your goals. Besides, there are things you can do to achieve a flatter stomach such as drink flat tummy water which helps to naturally get rid of belly fat.
You can’t head to a buffet dinner after 30 minutes on treadmill, as fitness is all about balance. Eating right and regular exercise go hand in hand; you don’t have to start with P90X. Start easy and increase the intensity gradually.
Never ever stop in your journey of physical fitness. It is a cliché but it really is true that beginning is the hardest, and you will need to push yourself to conquer those lazy demons. Stay committed, and you will get stronger every day. Most people, once they have pushed through that initial difficult stage, end up really enjoying having a regular fitness regime. It gives you a sense of achievement and peace of mind that you are doing what you can to make sure you are looking after your body, not to mention the aesthetic benefits. Some even find career inspiration and go on to teach others how to benefit from fitness. There are lots of opportunities out there like becoming a personal trainer or opening your own fitness centre franchise with somewhere like Ninja Nation. The possibilities are endless.
