I do love a good fashion show – for me, whether you put your collection in front of an editorial camera or on fashion runway, it needs to make a statement. Styling and choreography are extremely important, and lack of focus on these can make a fab collection look drab. There should be a dramatic edge to it. Or an ethereal romance. Whichever route you take, there has to be a statement.
I recently attended Marks & Spencer’s AW’14 Fashion Show, held at Waldorf Astoria. I loved how the show opened with thunder and rain, and music to set the pace. Lots of drama – yummy! Gorgeous models walked in with clear shiny umbrellas and rain coats, and I got all excited for the show to follow. Unfortunately, nothing came after that. The collection was signature M&S, classic with sharp cuts and edgy silhouettes, and some very interesting trench coats and wraps. Colour palette was predictably fall, with lots of black, grey and red. I loved the collection, and the set-up. What I found missing was the styling, the edge, that statement a fashion show must have!!
Regardless, I am sure I will be heading down to MoE to shop some of the fabulous pieces I spotted during the Marks and Spencer AW ’14 Fashion Show, including a sequined pencil skit and magenta gloves!
Here are a few pictures to give you a flavour of the show – Enjoy!
