Now that I am working in close proximity with the fashion world, I have realized how happening this time of the year is, with fashion shows and trade shows on a roll in different parts of the world (namely Paris, London and New York). Moreover, I read/hear something or the other every day that just makes me go like WHAT? For Real? It’s an incredible industry, really.
So, here’s a roundup of all that has been going on lately in the world of designers, stylists, brands and editorial champs.
The fashion diva, Victoria Beckham, recently showed her collection at New York Fashion Week, where a naughty camera man caught her cute lil’ daughter on Beckham’s lap, picking her nose. Yuck, I know. But this one looked so adorable, looking at Mumma Beck’s runway and truly engrossed.  On a serious note, there have been rumors of Victoria launching her debut shoe collection next. After the stunning collection she has put forth for AW ’14 and her own brilliant style sense, I am totally looking forward to it.
Karl Lagerfeld is coming to DUBAI! Yes, I also did a flip dance when I heard. Not that I am or will be in his 500 km radius, but still. Isn’t it exciting?? He announced yesterday that he will launch Chanel’s Cruise Collection ’14 in Dubai, on May 13th 2014. The exact venue is yet to be announced but just the idea of him and Chanel being in Dubai has me (and tons of other fashion enthusiasts) thrilled.
While Chanel is going places, Valentino is sending apology messages for an in-poor-taste press release sent to journalists after Amy Adams carried one of the label’s bags to Philip Seymour Hoffman’s funeral. In Hollywood, everything is possible!
Peter Pilotto designed a casual chic, affordable range in collaboration with Target. It was a rare treat, to enjoy Pilotto’s aesthetics with a modest price tag. Net-a-Porter and eBay had the collection for international buyers, and were almost sold out in a day. This was WITHOUT an active marketing campaign. Talk about brand loyalty.
As for Net-a-Porter, the leading e-commerce fashion portal, they have recently published first edition of  their PRINT magazine, called Porter, with the beautiful Amazonian Gisele Bundchen on cover. Being an online establishment, why would they want get into an already saturated, print publishing industry? Here’s an exclusive interview of Imran Ahmed (co-founder BoF) that will answer all your questions.
Unlike others, some do believe in ACTIVE promotion and publicity. Take Kanye’s designed sneakers that are to be sold for £10 million. Yes, you heard that right. There are giants like Nike and Adidas involved, but besides the price tag, the story failed to arouse my interest. Excuse Moi!
Nail color fans are going to have a field day soon as a number of high end collaborations are underway – say Phillip Lim and Nars, Rita Ora and Rimmel – create powerful hues for artsy tips. Keep a lookout for these particular brands, and I will keep you posted if I see something high end and colorful around.
Just in – There will be a new world record in making at Dubai Mall this Friday (Feb 14th) – if you got some time, do head over and support the initiative. Click here for details.
That’s quite a bit of reporting from my side. Feel free to drop in your suggestions and feedback cherries.
